1. C5 coating system mis-specification. The specification calls for a duplex coating system to AS/NZS 2312.1 Table 6.3 — typically a hot-dip galvanised substrate to AS/NZS 4680 plus a high-build epoxy primer and aliphatic polyurethane topcoat. Trade quotes often price a lower-cost C3 or C4 system. Where the substitution isn't caught at tender, the CA inherits both a §14 valuation argument and a 5-7 year early-failure warranty exposure. The principal's PI carrier will read the file.

2. Class 5 fastener calls. AS/NZS 3566.2:2002 names Class 5 stainless fasteners for the C5 zone. The roofing, cladding, and joinery quotes routinely price Class 4 or Class 3 fasteners, particularly where the supplier's standard product range is Class 4. The premium is real — $4-8 per m² of cladding additional — and the variation lands at first delivery.

3. Ferry and barge logistics under §10.2. Heavy or long materials (structural steel, long-run roof sheet, joinery runs over 5.5 m) require barge delivery, which adds $1,500-4,500 per delivery plus a programme constraint of 1-3 weeks notice. Tender quotes routinely price standard road freight and exclude the barge premium. Under §10.2 this is a contractor methodology call; under §14 it becomes a variation unless the tender was explicit.
